Over those years, I have written about mostly tech. My Mac Attack page gave me a following for a while as I was featured on sites like Lifehacker and Apartment Therapy...not to mention all of the sites that picked it up from them. However, I just post when I have time, so I never really got a huge readership over that time. Most of my clicks are from reviews of tech or tech products rather than people bookmarking and returning. No big deal, the main pleasure for me is the experience of writing and being able to go back and look at my thoughts and reviews over the years.
When I started working from home at the beginning of the pandemic, I really put a lot of effort into not only getting my home office to move from a hobby-centric area to an area that I could also work in for a minimum fo 40 hours in every week comfortably. Of course, I have written about many of those things I changed and the setup is operating perfectly now.
That being said, I feel like I don't have much to change when it comes to computers and home office gadgets...I already have so much stuff that minimalists have to seek treatment after seeing videos. I should mention that I probably have one big office setup video in my future, but I am not in a big hurry to go through it since those videos barely get seen by anyone. My more popular videos are explaining or reviewing products and I am sure that would still be the case.
What now then?
I am thinking about a more off the cuff approach on the blog that discusses what I am up to. I feel like I am in sort of a funk because nothing is really exciting me (outside of my beautiful wife and pets). I look around the corner at Apple's Vision Pro, AI, and many other items being released and I guess it all just feels like more of the same or the devices themselves don't make any sense at their price points and current usage possibilities. AI is already being used, so I expect a more gradual change without big wow moments, but I would love to be surprised.
As a result, I want to focus on things I have or I am doing rather than stuff coming down the road. Of course, I am not going to live in a cave, so if I add a new tech gadget, I will happily mention it.
Ch..ch.ch.anges?
Maybe this is just my attitude changing out of boredom or maybe even a completeness and comfort with what I have. I just don't need better computers, iPads, speakers, etc at this point. I spent tons of time getting everything right so I can just rest on my laurels and enjoy. However, I am finding that a bit unchallenging and I just want to get outside more...whether that means I am home or on some day-trip.
What are some of the things I plan to write about, and possibly record a video about, here and there?
1. With Covid, I got into some bad habits. I am still inside those bad habits and that has to change because I need more excitement. I have had some back problems over the last year and it seems like I am finally starting to get back to normal after spending a lot of money on acupuncture. In the last couple of weeks, I also went on Keto...well more like Atkins and have lost about 7 pounds, but I thought it would be interesting discuss any success or lack there of. I do know that my food costs have gone up, so I am hoping to research ways to do this without spending a fortune on everything.
2. One of the issues last year was that my wife and I had dramatically different schedules, so I would just crash on the couch after work until she got home. It would often be late when we saw each other, so we would watch or listen to something and go to bed. The situation has changed with us working a more similar schedule. I hope to get some stuff done together...organizing and removing the accumulating mess from when she moved in. Two houses merged into one is a recipe for clutter. We have plans to reduce that in the near future, so maybe some before and after pics of some of the main problem areas.
3. Photography - because of our different schedules and my back issues, there just wasn't a lot of opportunity to get out and see stuff. Yes, I could do that alone and often did when I was really into photography. I guess maybe I need to find some interesting subjects and force myself to get off my butt. We will see, but I plan to post some photos in the blog if they are worthwhile.
4. Cooking and grilling - Definitely plan to use the Big Green Egg/Weber/Sous Vide more this year. Will probably discuss some of my cooking methods.
5. Other updates and just general stuff I want to put in a public journal.
6. I am sure I will still have some reviews. Maybe I will branch more outside tech, so we will see.
All in all, I plan to make the blog a bit more personal, for good or bad. When I accomplish something, I want to write about it and have it to look back at down the road. I also noticed that some of my other webpages are a bit out of date, so I will update them as I can.
