I broke my Canon wide angle lens a few years back and I have missed that perspective for shots of the rooms in the house, shooting pups close up, outdoor shots where I want to capture more of the scene, etc. I really like a wide angle for those videos I film at my desk and talk about tech, as well.
The syndrome of buying gear to keep excited about a hobby is common thing. One new lens can make everything feel fresher. Of course, you could just use discipline and will power to get up and take those photos, but where is the fun in that?!!! LOL
When this lens was first announced a few years ago, I knew I would eventually have it as a companion to my Tamron 28-75mm ( https://amzn.to/3JJVsdy ) For the long lens, I use a Canon 100-400mm (https://amzn.to/3JLzqqU my all time favorite) with a metabones adapter. These three lenses could be taken on any trip and I wouldn’t feel like I was missing much, if anything. If I wasn’t going to shoot birds or wildlife, I would probably replace the Canon lens with an 85mm, a 100mm macro or even a 70-200mm depending on the goals.
Anyway, the reason it took so long to buy it had a lot to do with not leaving the house much during the pandemic. I also just decided to use my phone for wide shots ( and most other shots lately), so I guess those two things caused me to put it off a lot longer than expected.
To wrap up, I hope to post some pics when I have the thing in my paws. I may post some photos of that event. We are looking forward to it!
