As I mentioned, I don't often write about myself, in fact I have been accused of not having a life because the site is so focused on tech and some of my other hobbies. However, this may give my readers a more personal look at my life.
Camera app - I have tried some of the alternative camera apps and they are great, but I still mainly use that default app that allows me to switch from live mode to RAW mode at the touch of a button. It has helped capture moments when they occur rather than looking for moments with a traditional camera. In the past, the issue was the subpar quality, but hard to say that now.
That's a tough one. I mentioned FIlckr in the past and it is still up there, but I like to use Peachy and Snapseed for editing photos. I guess I could say Youtube is my favorite third party app overall.
Apple Watch Ultra - the thicker design not only offers a huge leap in battery life over prior Apple Watches, but I like the chunky, large design some complain about. I am a 6’5, Jeep guy, so I may have slightly different taste than the average Apple Watch fan. Below is a video about it with some of my favorite ways to use it. Sorry about the off-the-cuff nature of it, but I didn't have time to do a script and edit the file, so it is what it is.
For regular clothing, we have gone casual at the office, so it typically consists of a pair of Levis, a Button down Ralph Lauren shirt, and a pair of Greats sneakers (I switch out white and black shoes a couple times a week).
KEF LS50 Meta speakers - I have wanted a pair of the LS50s for years and I finally got a chance to purchase a pair for my office. These speakers do not disappoint. It is mind blowing how they can have such a huge soundstage that extends far outside my desk’s limits. They make music come alive in this small area. I can’t image how they would sound in a space where they have more room to breathe. As with most of my speaker purchases, these will probably eventually end up in another room, so I can re-experience them again down the road.
Apple Music - We have HomePods, CarPlay, AppleTVs, etc.. so music can be served up at a moments notice by just saying into the air, “Siri play the Beastie Boys” and my music fix is immediately met.
I am currently watching (Dr.) House on Amazon Prime. It has a lot of seasons and each season has a ton of shows. It's additive, so don't jump in unless you have time to spare!
I love all kinds of music. So that can range from Frank Sinatra singing “You make me feel so young”, to Maze “ Joy and Pain” to Christ Stapleton singing the National Anthem. Music makes me the most happy when I am sharing it with other people…especially when it’s Jimmy Buffett and I am sharing him with my wife near a beach somewhere. Below is a pic from a trip to Sun Studios, it is still hard to comprehend how such a small building was responsible for putting many of my favorite artists on the map and starting a music revolution...Elvis, Cash, Howlin Wolf, etc.
Currently, we really enjoy filet mignon from Butcher Box in the sous vide for around four hours with a quick searing in a butter covered cast iron pan or on a Weber Grill. Perfectly done every time!
Currently, that would be the Springhill Suites we stayed in at Navarre Beach, Florida when we got married. The rooms are nothing to brag about, but the restaurant is amazing and the memories of that trip are priceless. Navarre still feels like an old beach town that people romanticize about while still being nearby Pensacola and Destin when you want to experience a more touristy location.
When my grandparents passed, I rarely received anything. However, my grandfather left a will, so he passed down an Omega watch he received for an anniversary at his job. I have loved Omega over the years and I have a current version of their automatic watches, but there is something special about looking down at this vintage piece being worn on a special occasion and knowing my grandfather also wore it.
I love the end result of having great food for me and my loved ones. Is it fun monitoring an all night smoke on the Big Green Egg? Not really, but there is some satisfaction in having amazing food that you created.
For most of my life, I loved playing basketball. It was an addiction, but nothing like constant back injuries to break a habit. Now I guess you could say swimming is my favorite since I can do it alone or with the wife and get exercise without worrying about injuries. Also, when the temperatures hit 100 degrees, there is nothing like jumping into a pool....not to mention swim-breaks where I can enjoy the view.
Music Streaming - I really can’t think of anything that I get more bang for the buck from. The best part is that most of the music services I have tried have the vast majority of "popular" music (not talking about that recording your uncle put together in his garage) and also provide new releases on the day they hit the market. I wish there was a movie service like this, but instead, that whole system is a mess. You want to watch an older movie, prepare to look through a bunch of apps to try to find it...if it is even available on app. There is a chance you will spend money renting it instead of just paying one fee a month for nearly everything, like you have with most music streaming services.
Enjoying the things around me. It is so easy to just to take things for granted, and I am definitely guilty of that, but where I feel the most successful is when I am enjoying time with my wife, pets, or the more simple things in life, like nature or having a good meal with friends and family.
